Comparing BPS and BPA: Cardiovascular Effects in Female Rat Hearts
نویسنده
چکیده
Bisphenol A (BPA) is being removed from many consumer products because of concerns about the chemical’s potential to disrupt the endocrine system. A chemical analog known as bisphenol S (BPS) has been adopted as an alternative in products such as water and baby bottles, thermal paper, and linings of metal cans. In this issue of EHP, a new study shows that BPS has nearly identical impacts on the rat cardiovascular system as those previously reported for BPA by members of the same team.

Rapid Responses and Mechanism of Action for Low-Dose Bisphenol S on ex Vivo Rat Hearts and Isolated Myocytes: Evidence of Female-Specific Proarrhythmic Effects
BACKGROUND Bisphenol S (BPS) has increasingly been used as a substitute for bisphenol A (BPA) in some "BPA-free" consumer goods and in thermal papers. Wide human exposure to BPS has been reported; however, the biological and potential toxic effects of BPS are poorly understood. OBJECTIVE In this study, we sought to elucidate the sex-specific rapid effect of BPS in rat hearts and its underlyin...
متن کاملBisphenol A Exposure and Cardiac Electrical Conduction in Excised Rat Hearts
BACKGROUND Bisphenol A (BPA) is used to produce polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins that are widely used in everyday products, such as food and beverage containers, toys, and medical devices. Human biomonitoring studies have suggested that a large proportion of the population may be exposed to BPA. Recent epidemiological studies have reported correlations between increased urinary BPA conce...

Biomonitoring studies have indicated that humans are routinely exposed to bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical that is commonly used in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Epidemiological studies have shown that BPA exposure in humans is associated with cardiovascular disease; however, the direct effects of BPA on cardiac physiology are largely unknown. Previously, we have shown...

BACKGROUND There is wide-spread human exposure to bisphenol A (BPA), a ubiquitous estrogenic endocrine disruptor that has been implicated as having potentially harmful effects on human heart health. Higher urine BPA concentrations have been shown to be associated with cardiovascular diseases in humans. However, neither the nature nor the mechanism(s) of BPA action on the heart are understood. ...
متن کاملP-136: The Protective Effect of Vitamin C on Adverse Effect of Bisphenol A on The Ovary in Adult Rat
Background: Bisphenol A (BPA), an estrogenic environmental contaminant is also known for oxidative stressinducing effect. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of vitamin C as an antioxidant on the ovary tissue in adult rats treated with BPA. Materials and Methods: Adult female rats (200 ±20 g) were divided into 4 groups (n=6):control, bisphenol A (60μg/Kg/day) , vitamin C (150 mg...
